Climate in Guatemala
Antigua Guatemala
During the rainy season (mid-May through early October),
the skies are virtually clear during the morning hours. The afternoon
usually brings showers that can last for a few hours. It is a good
idea to bring along rain gear, although the lighter
the better.
The dry month boast temperatures that range from 75 to 80 degrees
F, with temperatures rising a bit during the months of March and
April.
Evenings can be chilly with temperatures dropping
noticeably during the coldest months of December and January.
The Highlands
Western Climate
The weather here is similar to that of the northern
highlands with frequent showers and temperate weather conditions.
The frequent rain requires travelers to keep rain gear handy and
heavy clothing for the evening.
Northern Climate
The misty weather here requires rain gear and long-sleeved
shirts for the chilly wind. The humidity rises quite a bit compared
to the rest of the country and promotes a continuous misty rain.
The characteristic rain in the area is called chipi chipi by the
locals and keeps the surrounding countryside perpetually green and
lush. The high altitude keeps temperatures between 50 to 70 degrees.
Caribbean Coast
The average daytime temperature on the coast ranges
from 80 to 90 degrees. Even during the countrys rainy season
from May through October, the warm weather stays. The showers tend
to bring the temperatures down a bit. Cold fronts have been known
to enter off the ocean during the months of December and January
but these temperatures only descend to the mid 60 degrees. When
the rains come, it is wise to have rain gear on hand. But during
the sunny months, you can make it with only a hat and sunglasses
as extra gear, dont forget the sun block, either.
Petén
Rainfall here is frequent throughout the year but lightens
up considerably during the months of February on though April. Temperatures
can be balmy on occasion but keep the rain gear handy. If you plan
on being on forest trails, be sure to pack the insect repellent.
Pacific Coast
The coast boasts warm temperatures year around. Daytime
temperatures tend to stay in the range of 80 to 90 degrees. Even
during the rainy season, the hot weather continues unabated. Light,
cotton clothing and good sun protection is recommended for the region.
